The Dell FN2YX 4TB 7.2K RPM SAS-12GBPS 512N Form Factor Hot Plug With Tray uses the SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) interface for connectivity. SAS is a high-speed data transfer interface that provides a maximum data transfer rate of 12 gigabytes per second (GB/s). It also provides a high level of reliability and fault tolerance by allowing multiple devices to be connected to a single controller. The SAS interface uses a 12 Gbps data transfer rate, which is faster than the 6 Gbps data transfer rate of the older SAS interface, providing faster data transfer and improved performance. Additionally, SAS-12GBPS interface supports backward compatibility with 6 Gbps, 3 Gbps and 1.5 Gbps SAS devices and also with SATA devices. The Dell FN2YX Hard Drive is also compatible with SAS-based systems and servers, and can be used as a direct-attach storage (DAS) solution, or as part of a storage area network (SAN) solution. It can be connected to a SAS controller or host bus adapter (HBA) through the SAS interface, and then connected to a server or storage system. This hard drive is designed to be hot-plug capable which means that it can be removed and replaced while the system is running. This feature allows for easy maintenance and upgrades, without having to shut down the system.
