Der Klimawandel ist ein Beispiel fr die Bedeutung der geschichtlichen Dimension. Dass die Gletscher schmelzen, wei man nur aus dem Vergleich mit historischen Dokumenten. Ein zentrales Forschungsfeld ist daher die Rekonstruktion. Sie ist nicht zu trennen vom zweiten Forschungsfeld, der Rezeption naturaler Zustnde durch die historischen Akteure. Diese Einfhrung befasst sich mit den Voraussetzungen und Grundannahmen, auf denen die Rezeptions- und Rekonstruktionsforschung der Umweltgeschichte aufbaut.
