RISE and RISE Up (Levels C-Z): Reading Inspires Students to Excel

Accelerate your students' RISE to reading success! Jan Richardson, Ph. D., and Ellen Lewis, M. Ed., have recast Richardson's proven Next Step Forward guided reading framework as a powerful, short-term intervention. Scholastic RISE provides targeted, small-group instruction in reading comprehension, word study and phonics, and guided writing. After six to eight weeks in RISE, nearly all students gain the confidence, proficiency, and skills they need to excel as readers and meet grade-level benchmarks. RISE (Levels C-N) builds foundational skills How it works: Groups of four students rotate through four instructional stations Students read and reread a book to build comprehension and engage in word study and guided writing Implement for 45-60 minutes a day for six to eight weeks RISE Up (Levels O-Z) develops comprehension strategies How it works: Groups of four students rotate through three instructional stations. Students practice different comprehension strategies on the same short text. Implement 45 minutes a day for six to eight weeks.
