Die Entstehung und Entwicklung Sozialer Arbeit ist in Deutschland eng mit der Geschichte Sozialer Bewegungen verbunden. Sowohl Arbeiter-, Frauen- und Jugendbewegung als auch die Neuen Sozialen Bewegungen haben Impulse fr die Soziale Arbeit gesetzt und z.T. aktiv an der Entwicklung der Handlungsfelder 'Sozialarbeit' und 'Sozialpdagogik' und deren Methoden mitgewirkt. Dieses Verhltnis war bzw. ist aber nicht immer harmonisch, sondern weist verschiedene Spannungsmomente und Abgrenzungen auf, in denen Fragen der gesellschaftlichen Verankerung und Verantwortung und des Selbstverstndnisses Sozialer Arbeit angesichts Sozialen Wandels diskutiert werden. Das Lehrbuch geht den Impulsen und Herausforderungen in seinen historischen Querschnitten nach und gibt einen guten berblick zur Geschichte der Sozialen Bewegungen und der Entwicklungen, die das Sozialwesen in diesen Kontexten genommen hat.
