Immer wieder wird von Jugend- und Mediensoziologen betont, wie bedeutsam Medien im Jugendalter sind und dass sie gar mit den traditionellen Sozialisationsinstanzen konkurrieren und zunehmend an Sozialisationsmacht gewinnen. Aber dennoch berzeugen die Ergebnisse vieler qualitativer und quantitativer Rezeptionsstudien im Sinne einer soziologischen Sozialisationstheorie nicht. Dies ist der Tatsache geschuldet, dass es an einem zeitgemen komplexen Theoriemodell fehlt, das umfassend alle Indikatoren und Parameter bercksichtigt, die in der Situation der Medienaneignung und -verarbeitung eine Rolle spielen. Seit den 1980er Jahren wird immer wieder auf den diffusen Verweisungszusammenhang von Individuum, Gesellschaft und Medien hingewiesen, doch eigentliche Wirkmechanismen und dauerhafte Relevanzrahmen vor dem Hintergrund der Sozialisation des Individuums bleiben sowohl theoretisch als auch empirisch weitgehend ungeklrt. Die Autoren dieses Bandes verknpfen das Potenzial vorhandener soziologischer Medien- und Sozialisationstheorien und nutzen es im Kontext gegenwrtiger Medienentwicklungen fr einen modernen Ansatz einer Mediensozialisationstheorie. Vorgestellt und diskutiert werden Ideen, neue Theoriemodelle und Untersuchungen.
