Zahlreiche Informationen werden heute ber Web-Informationssysteme (WIS) zur Verfgung gestellt. Jedoch ist es schwierig, das Angebot aktuell zu halten und das schnelle Auffinden von Informationen zu ermglichen. Der Einsatz von ORDBS (objekt-relationale Datenbanksysteme), die durch SQL:1999 den knftigen Datenbankstandard darstellen, verspricht eine Reduzierung dieser Probleme. Im Buch werden dazu verschiedene Verfahren vorgestellt. Dazu wird ein berblick ber ORDBS und SQL:1999, Web-Informationssysteme und verwandte Technologien und die bisherigen Verfahren zur Kopplung von WIS und Datenbanken gegeben, auerdem wird die automatische Aktualisierung des Dokumentenbestands, die DB-gesttzte Suche und die ORDBS-basierte Verwaltung von Dokumenten dargestellt. Eine Abgrenzung zu anderen Verfahren sowie dem Einsatz relationaler Datenbanken und objektorientierter Datenbanksysteme wird vorgenommen. Viele Beispiele und Abbildungen runden das Buch ab.
