Die Studie untersucht die ffentlichen Diskussionen um Kasachisch und Russisch in der ehemaligen Sowjetrepublik Kasachstan aus einer wissenssoziologisch-diskursanalytischen Perspektive. Es wird erforscht, wie verschiedene soziale Akteure die bestehende Sprachsituation in miteinander konkurrierenden Diskursen deuten und wie diese Interpretationen der kasachstanischen Sprachrealitt eine spezifische soziolinguistische Ordnung konstituieren. Anhand von Bedeutungen, die dem Kasachischen und Russischen in den Diskurskmpfen zugeschrieben werden, rekonstruiert die Untersuchung den symbolischen Sprachkonflikt als komplexen Aushandlungsprozess ber den kulturellen Gabentausch zwischen Kasachen und Russen, in dem die kasachisch-russischen Anerkennungs- und kasachischen Selbstanerkennungsverhltnisse geregelt werden.
