In jngerer Zeit wird intensiv ber die Einfhrung eines Digitalen Personalausweises diskutiert. Dieser soll in Form einer Chipkarte alle bisherigen Inhalte und Merkmale eines Personalausweises fr die Sichtprfung enthalten und auerdem mit einem Chip versehen sein, der es dem Inhaber gestattet, elektronisch zu signieren, zu verschlsseln und sich zu authentifizieren. Zustzlich soll der Chip die automatisierte berprfung biometrischer Merkmale des Inhabers ermglichen. Das Buch prsentiert die Ergebnisse einer Machbarkeitsstudie, die von der Bundesregierung in Auftrag gegeben wurde.
