Wie versuchen politische Sprecher die Medienagenda zu beeinflussen und wie reagieren die Journalisten auf solche Versuche? Was sind die strukturellen Bedingungen und die normativen Voraussetzungen der Interaktion von Medien und Politik in der Bundesrepublik und den USA? Diese Fragen versucht der Band zu beantworten, indem er die Einstellungen, Normen und Wertorientierungen von politischen Sprechern im Umfeld der Regierung und von Journalisten in Washington und Bonn analysiert. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass sich die politischen Kommunikationskulturen in beiden Lndern systematisch unterscheiden: Whrend das Verhltnis von Sprechern und Journalisten in den USA durch das Diktat der Medienregeln geprgt ist, orientieren sich die Kommunikationsbeziehungen in der Bundesrepublik an sozialem Konsens und letztlich an (partei)politischen Kalklen. Dies liegt nicht zuletzt an den Strukturen des politischen Prozesses und des Mediensystems.
