Im Mrz 1917 eroberten britische Truppen die Stadt Bagdad. Dabei verdrngten sie eine autoritre Regierung, die als direkte Gefahr fr die eigenen Interessen am Persischen Golf wahrgenommen wurde. In einer Proklamation an die Bevlkerung bekundeten die Eroberer ihre Absicht, auf den Trmmern des gestrzten Regimes eine freie und gerechte Ordnung aufzubauen. Sechsundachtzig Jahre spter schien sich dieses Ereignis durch den Angriff der USA auf den Irak zu wiederholen. Mit der Analyse der britischen Irakpolitik von 1914-1922 und der amerikanischen Irakpolitik von 2003 bis 2009 zeichnet Hauke Feickert die internen Debatten in London und Washington nach. Daraus entwickelt der Autor in einem Vergleich Parallelen und Unterschiede.
