Richard Traunmller zeigt die Bedingungen auf, unter denen Religion als vorpolitische Grundlage der Demokratie gelten kann und unter welchen nicht. Er nimmt zu diesem Zweck eine doppelt kulturvergleichende Perspektive ein und argumentiert, dass das Verhltnis zwischen Religiositt und sozialem Kapital sowohl im Vergleich von verschiedenen Religionsgruppen als auch im Vergleich verschiedener nationaler Kontexte variiert und dadurch einer systematischen sozialwissenschaftlichen Erklrung zugefhrt werden kann.
