Vergegenwrtigt man sich aber, da in den tglichen Konferenzen der psychiatrischen Kliniken und Anstalten bei jeder Auf nahme und Entlassung Probleme der "Psychiatrischen Systematik" aktuell werden, so wird man nicht nur die Neigung, sondern auch die Notwendigkeit verstehen knnen, die Entwicklung der diagnostischen Termini, mit denen wir tglich arbeiten, kennen zu lernen. 'Vir versuchten, die Bemhungen dreier Generationen um die begrifflich saubere Ordnung der in Klinik und Forschung gewonnenen Beobachtungen chronologisch darzustellen. Da wir heute mit Hilfe klarer, differentialdiagnostisch zielstrebig gerichteter Fragestellungen fr jede psychische Abnormitt einen annhernd bereinstimmenden "Ort" im System der speziellen Psychiatrie finden knnen, ist ein Resultat dieses im einzelnen gar nicht mehr berschaubaren Ringens um Ordnung. Eine Besinnung auf die Arbeit an der Bildung psych iatrischer Begriffe sollte alle erfllen, die heute in der Lage sind, die Klassifizierung im klinischen Alltag nosologisch befriedigend zu voll ziehen. Die Durchfhrung der mir 1948 von KURT SCHNEIDER gestellten Aufgabe, den Gang dieser Entwicklung seit 1863 - dem Jahr der grund legenden Publikation von K. L. KAHLBAUM - darzustellen, hat mir ein eindrucksvolles Bild von der geistigen Leistung all der Autoren vermittelt, deren Bemhungen uns nicht nur eine weitgehende, schnelle Verstndigung in der tglichen klinischen Arbeit ermglichen, sondern auch die Voraussetzungen zu jeder wissenschaftlichen Ttigkeit in der Psychiatrie schufen.
