97 Mit dem Feinbau allein hat man aber keineswegs den gesamten Aufbau eines Einkristalles erfat. Ein und derselbe Kristall kann noch sehr verschiedene Eigenschaften zeigen, ohne da sein Feinbau gendert wird. Ein Einkristalll aus Kupfer z. B. , etwa 10 cm lang und 1 cm dick, lt sich wie eine Stange aus Kuchenteig um den Finger biegen; aber zurck geht es nicht, der Kristall ist "verfestigt" worden! Erst nach seiner ersten Verformung tritt die allbekannte Festigkeit eines dicken Kupferstabes hervor. Ein Einkristall, das Urbild des festen Krpers, ist kein starres Gebilde ohne inneres Geschehen. In seinem Inneren herrscht die lebhafte "ungeordnete Bewegung", kurz "Wrmebewegung" genannt. Man mu sie in festen Krpern als Schwingungen sehr hoher Frequenz beschreiben, man darf von unhrbaren Schallschwingungen sprechen. Bei Schallschwingungen in makroskopischen Abmessungen behalten die mitwirkenden Stoff teilchen ihre Ruhelage, bei der Wrmebewegung in festen Krpern ist das aber nur zum Teil der Fall. Im Inneren der Einkristalle wechseln einzelne Bausteine stndig ihre Pltze, sie "diffundieren" in dem uerlich starren Kristall. Es gibt viele, zum Teil recht eindrucksvolle Versuche ber die Diffusion baueigener oder baufremder Atome und Molekle im Inneren fester Krper (ein t Beispiel findet sich in Optik . r 18 15, Anmerkung 1).
