Er zeigt, dass die Elemente dieser Gruppe chemisch meist relativ reaktionstrge sind und regelmige Abstufungen ihrer Eigenschaften zeigen. So nehmen vom Chrom zum Wolfram Dichte, Schmelz- und Siedepunkte zu, die Reaktivitt leicht ab. Chrom, Molybdn und Wolfram entdeckte man Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts, das nur knstlich darstellbare Seaborgium erst etwa 200 Jahre spter. Molybdn ist z. B. Bestandteil sehr harter Sthle, Wolfram wurde fr Wendeln von Glhlampen verwendet.
