Organisationen gelten in der heutigen Organisationssoziologie meist als menschheitsgeschichtlich spte Errungenschaften der Moderne. Als vermeintlicher Gewhrsmann dieser These wird immer wieder Max Weber angefhrt. Doch weder dessen Typus brokratischer Herrschaft noch dessen Begriff der rationalen Arbeitsorganisation obgleich beide auf moderne Verhltnisse zugeschnitten sind enthalten bei nherem Hinsehen zwingende Argumente fr eine prinzipielle Begrenzung von Organisationen als solchen auf Moderne. Beide erreichen eigentlich erst im Kontrast zu vormodernen Organisationsformen ihre Tiefenschrfe.
