Dieses Buch ist der Versuch, die Krise des hierarchischen Systems zu analysieren und Mglichkeiten einer Weiterentwicklung aufzuzeigen. Einer der mglichen Wege ist dabei eine Neubelebung der Gruppen, die in der Urgeschichte eine wichtige Bedeutung fr das Zusammenleben der Menschen hatten. Die Entstehung der Hierarchie wird dabei ber die Zentralisierung von Funktionen auch als eine Machtergreifung der Mnner angesehen, die mit Militr und Logik bestimmte Teilaspekte der Wirklichkeit herausheben und andere, z. B. die weiblichen Dimensionen, vernachlssigen. Deshalb sind auch die Frauen bis heute Hierarchien gegenber skeptisch. Hierarchie verlangt zudem eine bestimmte Logik. Wie eine neue fr Mnner und Frauen akzeptable Logik aussehen knnte, wird in dem Buch erstmals angedacht. Die sechste Auflage wurde vollstndig berarbeitet und um zwei Kapitel zur Hierarchie und Geschlechterthematik sowie zur Wissenschaftstheorie der Gruppendynamik erweitert.
