Die filmischen Verarbeitungen reichen vom Genre des Sandalenfilms hin zu zahlreichen Verfilmungen antiker Stoffe: Pier Paolo Pasolinis und Lars von Triers Verfilmungen der Medea, Pasolinis Edipo Re, wie auch Fellinis Verfilmung des Romans Satyricon des Petron. Den Abschluss des Bandes bildet eine Zusammenfassung und kritische Analyse des Phnomens Antike im Film. Der Band fasst die Beitrge eines Symposions zusammen, das im Sommer 2000 an der Universitt Trier in Zusammenarbeit mit den Antikenfestspielen des Theaters Trier ausgerichtet wurde.
