In der Theoriegeschichte der sthetischen Theorie hat sich im 20. Jahrhundert eine Lesart der Kantischen Analytik des Schnen herausgebildet, welche die Zweckfreiheit der Knste als Dogma ihrer Funktionslosigkeit versteht. Dem gegenber gibt es Entwicklungen auf dem Feld der Knste, die in eine andere Richtung weisen. Das Buchprojekt geht von der impliziten Annahme aus, dass sthetische Theorie sich ihrem Gegenstand gegenber als angemessen erweisen muss. Es besteht daher eine Notwendigkeit, die theoretischen Parameter der Zweckfreiheit, Autonomie und Funktionslosigkeit neu zu berdenken. Die Strategie dieser Operation besteht darin, sich mit der philosophischen Geschichte des Zweckbegriffs auseinanderzusetzen und diese in ein Verhltnis zu aktuellen Diskursen und Phnomenologien der Kunst zu setzen. Auf dem Prfstand steht damit die Funktion/Funktionslosigkeit der Kunst in der Gesellschaft sowie eine Neufassung ihrer Zwecke.
