Im Zentrum stehen neben der Betrachtung ihres Lebens als Jahrhundertschicksal die Erschlieung ihrer literarischen, poetologischen und essayistischen Schriften vom Frh- ber das Exil- und Nachkriegswerk bis zu den Texten nach 1967. In diesem Zusammenhang werden prgende Lebens- und Kulturrume der Autorin sowie ihr kulturelles und kulturpolitisches Engagement bis zu ihrer Prsidentschaft des Schriftstellerverbandes der DDR beleuchtet. Die nationale und internationale Rezeption ist ein weiterer Schwerpunkt. Die Betrachtung der Polarisierung des Urteils zu Seghers nach 1989 zeigt die Mglichkeit differenzierter Wertungsstrategien.
