Die Dissertation beschftigt sich aus professionstheoretischer Perspektive mit dem Phnomen des pdagogischen Ethos von Lehrer*innen. Sie will eine Antwort auf folgende Frage geben: Wie kann Ethos als Element pdagogischer Professionalitt von Lehrer*innen konzipiert werden, und welche Elemente enthlt eine solche Theorie des pdagogischen Ethos? Ausgangspunkt ist erstens die Feststellung, dass Ethos zwar als zentrales Element pdagogisch professionellen Handelns gilt, eine systematische Integration in Modelle professionellen Handels aber bislang nicht vorliegt. Zweitens wird die Kritik an einer strukturtheoretischen Professionstheorie geteilt, die durch die Hervorhebung von Widersprchen und Antinomien im Handeln von Lehrpersonen den Beruf als einen unmglichen rahmen. Die These lautet, dass sich mit einem Konzept von Ethos als Praxis ein pdagogischer Umgang mit strukturellen Antinomien beschreiben lsst, ohne den Anspruch auf Professionalitt aufgeben zu mssen. Ausgehend von Hans Joas Theorie des kreativen Handelns wird pdagogisches Ethos als spezifische Form experimentellen Handelns mit den Dimensionen Kontingenz, Ethik und Macht konzipiert. Ethos antwortet auf Handlungshemmungen, die durch pdagogische Antinomien ausgelst werden. Mittels Analysen von videografiertem Unterrichtsmaterial lassen sich die Aspekte Relationalitt und Krperlichkeit als Denkvoraussetzungen einer Theorie des pdagogischen Ethos rekonstruieren. Pdagogisches Ethos hat die Qualitt eines experimentellen Handelns, weil unmgliche Entscheidungen getroffen werden, die einer Rationalitt eigener Art folgen: einer Rationalitt, die in dem unausgesprochenen Versprechen gegenber sich selbst grndet, eine Sache gut zu machen.
