The directional lug pattern and the high void ratio work together to eliminate mud and snow and to eject rocks stuck between the tread elements. In this manner, the tire prevents mud and snow from packing into the footprint and blocking the tire's contact with the road surface. This also avoids stone retention from drilling rocks into the casing and damaging the tire with stone retention.
