Maxxis Assegai EXO MTB Tire The Maxxis Assegai tire is named after the iron-tipped spear used by the Zulu people of South Africa. Greg Minnaar, a native of South Africa, thought it was a fitting name for a tire ready to do battle on the mountain. The tall knobs punch through dust and loam to find traction, but also offer support and confidence on wet roots and rocks. While other tires excel only in certain conditions, the new Maxxis Assegai is built to go fast everywhere. The Assegai comes in a broad range of casings and compounds mainly tailored towards the gravity side of mountain biking. Choose from the popular intermediate EXO casing, EXO + for that little bit extra protection, or Double Down and Downhill for the really rough stuff. Maxx Grip uses the softest rubber for more of the tire to prioritise grip and traction. Maxx Terra is an intermediate blend to roll fast but still gives a good supportive grip.
