This chess set includes our British Staunton chess pieces handcrafted from boxwood matched with Deluxe Two-Drawer Elm Burl and Bird's-Eye Maple Chess Case. Our British Staunton draws inspiration from a vintage design originating from the old British Chess Company in the mid-1800s. Featuring purely traditional Staunton features, the pieces are handcrafted one piece at a time just like they were over a hundred and twenty years ago. This is a 34-piece set that includes two extra queens for pawn promotion. The ebonized pieces are lacquer polished to an obsidian black finish nearly indistinguishable from real ebony. The king is tall with a base diameter of 1.5", the perfect size for tournament chess games. Heavily weighted for exceptional stability, the pieces have thick green baize pads for a soft cushion on the chess board. We include a Certificate of Manufacturer so you will always know what the pieces are, when they were made, and where they came from.This beautiful chess case seamlessly combines functionality with elegance, offering a chess board and storage for the chess pieces all in one. Crafted from solid wood, its exterior boasts graceful curves adorned with a three-row beaded section around the top and a refined molded edge beneath. The chess board, featuring high-quality elm burl and bird's-eye maple veneer, is accented by a decorative black delimiter highlighting the playing area. The chess board has two-inch squares and the case an overall footprint of nineteen inches square. A drawer on each player's side completely pulls out to make it easy to put pieces in and take them back out. Each drawer has sixteen individual compartments lined with a soft velour fabric to protect each piece.
