Unencumbered by fine detail, these chess pieces will stand up to the rigor of daily play for a lifetime. This is a thirty-four-piece set that includes two extra queens for pawn promotion. The ebonized pieces are lacquer polished to an obsidian black finish nearly indistinguishable from real ebony. The king is tall with a base diameter of 1.25", the perfect size for casual chess games at home. Heavily weighted for exceptional stability, the pieces have thick green baize pads for a soft cushion on the chess board. A wide and colorful burl wood delimiter accentuates the playing field while the black stained molded edge highlights the entire board. The squares are 1.75" and the footprint of the board is 19.5" square. Four felt pads on the bottom will protect whatever furniture the board sets on.Our Bird's-Eye Maple Classic Chess Box is wonderfully constructed and reminiscent of the old heirloom quality chess boxes from years ago.
