This chess set includes our Strategos Staunton in genuine ebony and boxwood matched together with our Black and Ash Burl Deluxe chess board. This one of a kind chess set is named after Hannibal's famous war horse that he rode across the Alps leading his army against the Roman Empire. This chess set is nothing short of extraordinaire taking Staunton to a new level with its artistic design. The knight with its down-turned head that curves to one side and mane flailing out behind its neck creates the image of horse racing into battle. Very few carvers in the world can accurately carve and replicate these complex knights. All of the pieces are beautifully shaped with a unique and elegant profile featuring a series of complex curves down the column. The lathe work is simply extraordinary. This is a large set with a king that is 4.25" tall and has a base of 1.875". The king features a highly ornate finial that is unique from any other chess set in our collection. The pieces have thick green baize pads so you can slide your pieces across the board or sit down softly.From Italfama in Italy, their Elm Burl and Erable chess board is one of the most beautiful chess boards in our collection. Elm burl is a unique and colorful wood with brown and orange colors that intermingle creating irregular patterns. The rich colors of the elm burl create a stunning backdrop against the ebony and boxwood chess pieces.
