Typical applications include rotary and centrifugal evaporations. Vacuum level can be regulated by the Model 1640 Controller from 2 torr to atmospheric pressure, precise to +/- 1 torr. Optional user defined programs can control evaporation of 2-solvent systems for walk-away process convenience. Up to 5 programs can be stored.The 1640 Controller works with direct or belt-drive oil-seal vacuum pumps up to 100L/min, diaphragm vacuum pumps, Wob-L® piston vacuum pumps, water aspirators, or house vacuum systems.Operation of Model 1640 ControllerThe Model 1640 Controller continually receives pressure readings from an internal piezoelectric sensor. The Controller microprocessor combines user-specified control parameters with this system feedback to control application vacuum level using a PTFE solenoid valve.The 1640 Controller can be placed on a bench surface or mounted on a hood rack with the provided thumbscrew fitting.User Interface with 1640 ControllerThe CAT. No. 1640A-01 has a membrane keypad and intuitive menus to enable easy vacuum control and process programming. Readout is a large LED display. Vacuum levels can be simply entered for real-time interactive control or continuous process vacuum control. The user can also utilize one of 5 userdefined programs to designate timed vacuum control runs to achieve reproducible evaporation results.The 5 user defined programs enable the user to designate 1 or 2 point vacuum level setpoints to control evaporation processes. Each of these vacuum levels is held for a user designated period of time. At the end of the time period, the controller progresses to the second (higher vacuum) setpoint or turns off vacuum control at the conclusion of the evaporation.Application Note:Deep vaccum pumps (e.g. oil-seal rotary vane models) controlling in torr range applications are basically 'blanked' off during much of the control period. This blank off allows the pump to run primarily in the millitorr range they are designed to operate in. This prevents pump overheating and oil mist.
