Seit dem Ende der 1970er Jahre gilt das amerikanische Silicon Valley als Leitbild fr eine erfolgreiche Regionalentwicklung. Die rumliche Nhe erlaubt es den dort angesiedelten Technologiegrndungen, kollektive Standortvorteile zu nutzen und erfolgreich zu wachsen. Am Beispiel des neu entstandenen Wirtschaftsbereichs Internet/E-Commerce untersucht Lutz Krafft Standortvorteile und selbstverstrkende Effekte, die bei der Entwicklung solcher rumlichen Cluster wirken. Basis seiner Untersuchung ist die bisher umfangreichste Erhebung von Internet-/E-Commerce-Grndungen in Deutschland: Mehr als 12.500 Unternehmen wurden per Internetrecherche erfasst, online befragt und ber einen Zeitraum von drei Jahren beobachtet, um die Entwicklung der Industrie und der Cluster im Detail zu verfolgen. Der Vergleich von Standortmustern und Standortfaktoren zeigt, welche Faktoren fr die Wahl des Standortes relevant sind und welche die regionalen Ausfallraten beeinflussen. Abschlieend leitet der Autor Ansatzpunkte fr die Frderung und die erfolgreiche Entwicklung rumlicher Cluster ab.
