In den vergangenen Jahrzehnten hat eine zunehmende globale Vernetzung stattgefunden, in deren Folge es auch einfacher geworden ist, Menschen aus entfernten Lndern kennenzulernen und zu heiraten. So ist seit den 1980er Jahren insbesondere die Zahl der Eheschlieungen zwischen deutschen Mnnern und Frauen aus rmeren Lndern angestiegen. Warum aber entscheiden sich deutsche Mnner dazu, eine Frau aus einem wirtschaftlich schwcheren Land zu heiraten? Ausgehend von der Theorie rationaler Wahl stellt David Glowsky Hypothesen auf und berprft diese anhand von drei Umfragedatenstzen. Den Kern der Untersuchung bildet eine Befragung binationaler Ehepaare, die mit Analysen des Mikrozensus und des Sozio-oekonomischen Panels ergnzt wird. Die Ergebnisse sind berraschend und widersprechen teilweise landlufigen Annahmen.
