Die vermeintliche Beschleunigung des Lebenstempos ist eine der populrsten Annahmen der Gegenwart. Besonders Medien wird in diesem Prozess eine verstrkende Rolle zugesprochen. Die Studie von Stephan O. Grland analysiert die Interdependenzen zwischen Zeitumgang und praktiken mit mobilen Medien und Zeiterleben in Warte- und Transitzeiten, sog. Interimszeiten. Dazu wird eine Methodentriangulation verwendet. Im Ergebnis zeigt sich, dass die Nutzung von mobilen Medien in Interimszeiten zu einem Gefhl der Beschleunigung fhrt und Nutzerinnen und Nutzer mittels verschiedener Zeitpraktiken versuchen, diese Zeitspannen optimal zu nutzen. Der Autor liefert eine erstmalige empirische Analyse von Beschleunigung und Medien sowie neue Einblicke in die mediale Ausgestaltung von Interimszeiten.
