Die Nutzung von Patentinformationen zur Untersttzung betrieblicher Entscheidungen ist durch erleichterte Zugriffsmglichkeiten auf Patentdatenbanken entscheidend verbessert worden. Trotz des hohen Informationswertes von Patenten sind erhebliche Defizite bei der Nutzung von Patentinformationen fr strategische Planungsaufgaben in der betrieblichen Praxis festzustellen. In dieser Arbeit werden Anwendungsfelder von Patentanalysen fr die strategische Planung von F&E ausfhrlich dargestellt. Dabei wird fr den Leser und potentiellen Anwender in der Industrie ein Instrumentarium entwickelt und anhand von Fallstudien vertieft, das auf betriebliche Problemstellungen direkt anwendbar ist. Ferner wird der Zusammenhang zwischen dem Patentierverhalten und dem konomischen Erfolg von Unternehmen untersucht. Unternehmen mit einer aktiven, strategisch gefhrten Patentpolitik erweisen sich dabei als eindeutig erfolgreicher als Unternehmen mit einer inaktiven, unsystematischen Patentpolitik. Zustzlich wird eine Methodik aufgezeigt, das Patentierverhalten von Unternehmen qualitativ zu gewichten. Zusammenfassend werden auf Basis der empirischen Befunde Handlungsempfehlungen fr die betriebliche Schutzrechtspolitik formuliert und die systematische Einbindung von Patentinformationen in strategische Entscheidungsprozesse aufgezeigt.
