In der Forschung fehlten bislang schlssige Anstze und Befunde zur Struktur eines internationalen Wettbewerbs zwischen den Ligen. Michael Renz argumentiert einen solchen Zugang und weist erstmals die Polarisationstendenzen im europischen Profifuball empirisch nach. Zur Ableitung geeigneter Reformen analysiert er diese Marktkonzentration konomisch und wettbewerbsrechtlich. Ein zentraler Vorschlag ist dabei die Abkehr von Nationalligen und eine Fusion von kleineren Ligen.
