sthetik und Literaturwissenschaft Der nachfolgende Versuch einer Geschichte sthetischer Kommunikation der Mo derne fand sein erstes Motiv in einem Ungengen der literaturwissenschaftlichen Lehre. So wenig es an profunden Einzelstudien zu bedeutenden sthetischen Theorien mangelt, so sehr fehlt eine aktuelle deutschsprachige Darstellung der sthetik, die deren philosophische Beobachtung der Kunst und Literatur seit ihrer Ausdifferenzierung zu einem "autonomen" Kommunikationssystem im 18. Jahrhundert rekonstruierte. Ist ein solcher Rekonstruktionsversuch fr die wis senschaftliche Beschftigung mit Kunst und Literatur aber berhaupt noch sinn voll? Sind die Ergebnisse der sthetischen Beobachtung von Literatur fr deren theoretische Analyse eigentlich relevant? Die Antwort auf solche Fragen scheint zunchst auf der Hand zu liegen: Literatur ist doch ein Teilgebiet der "Kunst", und was "Kunst" ist, das sagt uns die sthetik. Unsere Bewertung literarischer Texte bedarf sinnvoller Kriterien, und die liefert uns die sthetik. Die meisten literarischen Werke sind ohne angemessene Kenntnis des sthetischen Horizonts, in dem sie entstanden sind, nicht richtig zu verstehen: Schiller ohne Kant, Thomas Mann ohne Schopenhauer, Gottfried Benn ohne Nietzsche'- das scheint ein Un ding zu sein. Die sthetik gibt der Literaturwissenschaft also eine Art Grund; sie definiert "Kunst", begrndet unsere kritischen Werturteile und macht eine tragfhige Deutung der berlieferten Werke so allererst mglich. Sie bestimmt Gegenstand und Methode der literaturwissenschaftlichen Forschung. In Gestalt der sthetik begrndet die Philosophie offensichtlich die Mglichkeit der Lite raturwissenschaft, und so versteht es sich von selbst, daB eine Geschichte sthetischer Kommunikation notwendig ist; es ist ntzlich, den Grund zu kennen, auf dem man steht.
