Olaf Kaltmeier zeigt in einem theoretischen Modell die Differenz moderner und andiner Ordnungsraster und berprft dessen empirische Umsetzbarkeit anhand der kologischen, sozio-konomischen und kulturellen Konflikte in dem bolivianischen Kolonisationsgebiet Yapacan. Da diese unterschiedlichen Ordnungen sich nicht harmonisieren lassen, entsteht ein Widerstreit im Kampf um die Hegemonie. Im Kontext der konkreten historischen Situation analysiert der Autor die Gewalt der Moderne gegenber fremden, nicht-westlichen Ordnungen. Insbesondere die bolivianische Politik zur Kolonisierung des bis dahin unerschlossenen Tieflandes ist eines der grtdimensionierten ordnenden Projekte der Moderne in Lateinamerika.
