Das Buch untersucht das Verhltnis von Politik und Medien in der modernen Kommunikationsgesellschaft. Anhand ffentlich kontrovers diskutierter Themen unter der ersten rot-grnen Bundesregierung wird gezeigt, dass Medien einer eigenen Systemlogik folgen und sich nicht von Politik steuern lassen. Im Gegenteil: Es muss hinterfragt werden, ob die klassischen, politikwissenschaftlichen Funktionen der Medien nicht berdacht werden mssen. Gleichzeitig muss Politik aus diesem Sachverhalt Konsequenzen ziehen: Die Vermittlung von Inhalten kann und darf nicht ausschlielich auf die technischen Medien fokussiert werden. Neben der Professionalisierung von Kommunikationsstrategien bedarf es verstrkt der glaubhaften Vor-Ort-Vermittlung politischer Arbeit. Untermauert werden die Systemdifferenzen anhand einer Umfrage unter Politikern, Journalisten und Pressesprechern.
