This beautiful handcrafted chess set and chess box combination includes our Deluxe Old Club Staunton with genuine ebony and boxwood chess pieces matched with our walnut chess box. Ebony is one of the hardest woods in the world with no visible grain and when polished produces a chess piece with a glass-like obsidian luster and creates a stunning contrast against the rich colors of the mahogany and maple chess board. Our Deluxe Old Club is an ageless classic that for years has been a favorite with players for its distinguishable knight and traditional Staunton design. The Deluxe Old Club is often displayed on the front cover of countless chess books and has been used for plastic chess set models because of its popularity with club and tournament players. This set is an ideal size for your games at home with a tall king and a base of 1.625". Pieces have green billiard cloth pads for a soft landing on the chess board and are nicely weighted for stability. We include a certificate of authenticity so you will always know what the chess set is, where it came from, and when it was made.Our walnut chess box is perfect for storing your ebony and boxwood chessmen - they look great together! This is a traditional chess box that is designed for stacking or laying your chessmen on top of each other and there's plenty of room inside. It has an old world-charm with its lock and key for securing the lid and emerald green baize interior with a divider in the center for separating the two chess piece colors. This is an inlaid wood box with high quality walnut veneer on the outside and sealed with a satin polyurethane finish. The lock and recessed hinges are brass plated and have a rich looking gold-color mirror finish.
