This exquisite chess set is named after the stallion rode by the Duke of Wellington during the battle of Waterloo. The Copenhagen is without a doubt one of the most complex and elegant Staunton designs in our collection. The knight's mane is flowing straight back as if running into battle. The knight is beautifully sculpted with realistic features and fine detail including the ears, eyes, nose, mouth. Only the very best carvers in the world can accurately carve and replicate the details of this knight from piece to piece. The other pieces are equally impressive with graceful shapes and an elegant profile. Only the very best carvers in the world can accurately carve and replicate the details of this knight from piece to piece.The Copenhagen Staunton is a very large set with a 4.5 inch tall king with a base diameter of 1.9 inches. The pieces are handcrafted from the highest quality padauk and boxwood and heavily weighted for good balance and stability on the chess board. The king has two different finials with a press-fit so that you can change from one to other as you please. The pieces have thick green baize pads so you can slide your pieces across the board or sit down softly.
