This chess set includes Rome vs Egypt hand painted theme chess pieces matched with our Walnut and Maple Deluxe Chess Board. This colorful chess set is based on Rome's conquest of Egypt led by the armies of Julius Caesar and Cleopatra IIIV against Queen Arsinoe IV and King Ptolemy XIII. The short lived war culminated in the Battle of the Nile in 47 BC in which Caesar defeated the Egyptian king. The pieces are artistically designed with features and fine detail to capture the essence of the characters. The pieces are cast in solid polystone, a very hard, stone-like material, and are hand painted in realistic colors by highly skilled artisans with amazing detail.Our Walnut and Maple Deluxe Chess Board is made for us by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain, the largest manufacturer of high-quality chess boards in the world. This is an inlaid chess board made from the finest walnut and maple veneer sealed with a satin polyurethane finish to protect and enhance the beauty of the wood. The precision of the inlay work is remarkable. The squares are 1.75" and the overall size of the board is 17.5" and .5" thick. A triple inlay delimiter accentuates the squares from the extra-wide frame adding elegance to the design. The bottom of the board has felt pads to protect whatever it sits on.
