This historically based chess set includes British vs Zulu hand painted theme chess pieces matched with our Red & Erable High Gloss Deluxe Chess Board. This wonderful chess set is based on the British and Zulu wars that erupted when England invaded Zululand in southern Africa in the 1800s. A movie in 1964, Zulu, depicted the Battle of Rorke's Drift which one of the most famous battles that took place during the British-Zulu war. The pieces are artistically designed with features and fine detail to capture the essence of the characters. The pieces are cast in solid polystone, a very hard, stone-like material, and are hand painted in realistic colors by highly skilled artisans with amazing detail.Our Red and Erable High Gloss Deluxe Chess Board is made for us by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain, the largest manufacturer of high-quality chess boards in the world. This is an inlaid chess board made from red stained poplar and erable veneer sealed with a high gloss polyurethane finish to protect and enhance the beauty of the wood. The precision of the inlay work is remarkable. The squares are 1.75" and the overall size of the board is 17.5" and .5" thick. A wide black inlay delimiter accentuates the squares from the extra-wide frame adding elegance to the design. The bottom of the board has felt pads to protect whatever surface it sits on.
