This chess set includes our Queen's Gambit Staunton with ebonized and natural boxwood pieces matched with our Walnut and Maple Molded-Edge chess board and Classic Walnut Chess Box. If you've seen the Netflix series The Queen's Gambit, you saw Beth playing a game of chess with these pieces. This model is nearly identical to our German Knight with a few minor tweaks no one would even notice. But we wanted to offer exact same set so we made the changes and named it after the oldest chess openings in the game, The Queen's Gambit. Like our German Knight, this set is simple yet attractive and is the ideal set for your everyday chess game. Unencumbered by fine detail, these chess pieces will stand up to the rigor of daily play for a lifetime. Handcrafted from boxwood, the ebonized pieces are polished to an obsidian black finish nearly indistinguishable from real ebony. This king is tall with a base diameter of 1.375", an ideal size for tournament play or the casual game at home. Pieces are heavily weighted for exceptional stability and have thick green baize pads on the bottom for a soft cushion and allow pieces to slide smoothly across the chess board.Our Walnut and Maple Molded Edge Chess Board from Rechapados Ferrer combines classic design with elegant features to create an eye-catching battle field for your chess game. This is an inlaid chess board handcrafted from high quality walnut and maple veneer and sealed with a polyurethane finish that both protects and enhances the beauty of the wood. A wide and colorful burl wood delimiter accentuates the playing field while the black stained molded edge highlights the entire board. The squares are 2" and the footprint of the board is 19.5" square. Four felt pads on the bottom will protect whatever furniture the board sets on.The chess box is wonderfully constructed and reminiscent of the old heirloom quality chess boxes from many years ago. The box is covered in walnut veneer and the interior is lined with a thick green baize just like we use for the pads on our chess pieces. The box has a divider in the center for storing the black and white pieces separately. We used high quality recessed hinges and a brass plated lock for securing the lid. We include 2 keys in case one ever gets lost.
