The ship saw action in numerous conflicts including the Cuban Missile Crisis the Vietnam War and the Gulf War. In 1986 an F-14A Tomcat from the VF-2 "Bounty Hunters" squadron crashed on the deck of the Enterprise but the pilot was rescued and the ship suffered only minor damage.
