VF-192 flew missions in support of United Nations forces in the Korean theater engaging in air-to-air combat ground attack and reconnaissance missions. The Panther played a vital role in providing close air support to ground troops conducting bombing runs on enemy positions and patrolling the skies to maintain air superiority over the Korean Peninsula.During the Korean War VF-192s F9F-5 Panthers engaged in numerous aerial dogfights with enemy aircraft including the formidable MiG-15 jet fighters of the North Korean and Chinese Air Forces. Despite being a straight-winged aircraft in an era dominated by swept-wing jets the Panther proved to be a capable adversary utilizing its agility speed and firepower to hold its own against the MiGs. VF-192s pilots demonstrated exceptional skill and courage in the face of fierce aerial combat earning a reputation for their proficiency and determination in the air.
