The 1-4 Cavalry Regiment nicknamed "Quarterhorse" from the 1st Infantry Division deployed these upgraded M1A1 AIM TUSK tanks as part of the coalition forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom.The conflicts in Iraq presented unique challenges particularly in urban areas where traditional tank tactics needed adaptation. The M1A1 AIM TUSK addressed these challenges with features like additional armor protection reactive armor tiles and upgraded weapons making it better equipped to handle threats from infantry RPGs and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
