Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery known as "Monty" was a key figure in the Allied forces efforts in Europe particularly during the pivotal battles of Normandy and the subsequent campaign to liberate France and push back the German forces. The Dakota provided essential transportation for Montgomery allowing him to move quickly between key strategic locations confer with other Allied leaders and oversee military operations on the ground.As part of No. 24 Squadron of the Royal Air Force (RAF) KN628 participated in various conflicts and campaigns throughout the latter stages of World War II. In addition to its role in supporting Montgomerys activities the Dakota was involved in troop transport cargo delivery and medical evacuation missions across Europe. From delivering supplies to troops on the front lines to evacuating wounded soldiers from the battlefield the Dakota played a crucial role in sustaining the Allied war effort and providing vital support to ground forces during intense combat operations.The service history of the Douglas Dakota Mk.IV registration KN628 reflects the aircrafts versatility and reliability in fulfilling a wide range of roles during war.
