Stationed in China in January 1945 Lt. Col. McComas and his squadron played a crucial role in providing aerial reconnaissance support for Allied forces in the Pacific Theater. Operating from forward airfields in China they conducted reconnaissance missions deep into enemy territory gathering vital intelligence on enemy troop movements installations and supply lines.During their deployment in China Lt. Col. McComas and the 118th TRS faced significant challenges including adverse weather conditions rugged terrain and determined enemy resistance. Despite these obstacles they remained undeterred in their mission to gather intelligence and support Allied operations in the region. Lt. Col. McComas leadership and the combat prowess of the P-51D Mustang enabled the squadron to effectively.
