It featured a 75mm main gun providing a significant improvement in firepower and combined this with superior mobility and speed. The M24 Chaffee was instrumental in the closing months of World War II where its design allowed for effective reconnaissance and support roles. One notable deployment was with Company D 36th Tank Battalion 8th Armored Division during the Allied push into Germany in early 1945.In March 1945 the M24 Chaffee of Company D played a vital role in the battle for Rheinberg Germany. The city was strategically significant and its capture was essential for the Allies advance into the heart of the Third Reich. The Chaffees maneuverability and reliable 75mm gun made it ideal for both engaging German armor and supporting infantry operations in u.
