This variant of the Panzer III equipped with additional storage provisions such as extra oil drums and wooden boxes was tailored to the desert conditions encountered in the harsh terrain of North Africa. The s.Pz.Abt.501 played a crucial role in the Axis defense of Tunisia against Allied forces engaging in numerous armored engagements and contributing to the overall Axis war effort in the region.Throughout the Tunisian campaign the Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.N with Extra Oil Drum and Wooden Box saw action in a variety of defensive and offensive operations including battles at Kasserine Pass El Guettar and Medenine.
