Originally developed as a military variant of the Douglas DC-4 the C-54 was utilized primarily for transport missions during World War II and the Korean War. By the time it reached the Test Pilot School the C-54Q had been modified for specialized use including advanced flight testing and evaluation of new systems and technologies.
