G was a powerful variation of the StuG III series equipped with a 10.5 cm leFH 18 howitzer to serve as a dedicated infantry support vehicle. First introduced in 1943 the StuH.42 was developed to provide direct fire support especially against entrenched positions and infantry complementing the StuG III's anti-tank role. The vehicle featured the same chassis as the StuG III Ausf. G but was armed with the howitzer to deliver high-explosive rounds. Its design allowed the German Wehrmacht to engage enemy infantry and fortifications more effectively filling a vital role in combined arms operations.StuH.42 #132 participated in the Ardennes Offensive also known as the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. This German counteroffensive was the last major effort to reverse the Allied advance into Western Europe. During the bitter winter fighting in the dense Ardennes forests the StuH.42 vehicles played a crucial role in supporting German infantry as they advanced through difficult terrain oft.
