Viele innerstaatliche und transnationale Kriege der letzten Jahrzente unterliegen weder politischen, vlkerrechtlichen noch traditionalen Normen der Konfliktaustragung. Stattdessen eskalieren und verstetigen sich in ihnen Gewaltprozesse, schaffen nationalistische und fundamentalistische Ideologien neue Gruppenidentitten und entwickeln sich auf Dauer angelegte Kriegskonomien. Wie kann eine derartige, durch jahrzentelangen Krieg zerrttete Gesellschaft soziologisch erfasst werden? Die vorliegende Arbeit schlgt vor, hierfr das Erklrungsmodell der Systemtheorie Niklas Luhmanns zu verwenden. Die Arbeit ist somit ein Beitrag zu einem besseren Verstndnis des aktuellen Kriegsgeschehens ebenso wie zur kritischen Fortentwicklung der Systemtheorie in einem Gegenstandsbereich, den diese bislang weitgehend vernachlssigt.
