Since 1961, when pain therapy was introduced by Bonica, the- re have been world-wide efforts to establish basic regimens for the treatment of chronic pain. Yet many patients still continue to suffer from intractable pain despite the availa- bility of effective treatment that would greatly improve their quality of life.
